Yoga Under the Stars

This past Saturday I was able to do one of my most favorite things on this planet. I got to go to the Adler Planetarium! Not only that, I was able to attend their monthly Yoga Under The Stars event hosted the 1st Saturday of every month! If you are an advanced Yogi or just a beginner, this will be an experience unlike anything you've ever done before!

It takes place underneath the Graigner Sky Theater where a very experienced yoga instructor will guide you through all kinds of poses. They make it fun by focusing in on celestial themed poses such as "star pose" or "goddess". The most magical part of it all is when you begin. The room slowly darkens to the low intensity of moonlight and suddenly, stars appear, and you find yourself looking up at the night sky.

The stars slowly make their journey across the sky as you sweep through yoga poses that direct your view upwards. Every show is different, and this time, they gave us an up close look at Pluto thanks to all the gorgeous photos that the New Horizons satellite gobbled up and sent back to Earth. It's a 3D view of what life on our now re-classed dwarf planet looks like. After gazing at constellations, we moved on to our very own moon. The detail was extraordinary and the scope is quite humbling.

Often, when practicing yoga, the goal is to tune out all of the exterior noise (whether it be in your mind or in your physical environment) but with Yoga Under the Stars at the Adler Planetarium, you're encouraged to look outward and to be amazed. We are all star stuff. We are just a very, incredibly infindecimal part of this gigantic and beautiful cosmic address of Earth.

Also, my yoga pants are from Victoria Secret's active line and they GLOW IN THE DARK. It was so cool during the dim-lit yoga practice.

Included in your ticket to Yoga Under the Stars is admission to the Adler for the day! So drag your nerd friends out of bed in the morning (or in my case, a very patient husband) and spend a day exploring and open your world to the massive universe around us! And get a little sweat on too.

Also, here's a little self portrait of Tony.
